“I’m Your Biggest Fan, I’ll Follow You Until…”

You know how the rest of the song goes. Gilles and Feli practiced on Wednesday and it was basically my dream. Actually Gilles/Nando is my dream but this is pretty close. Feli always chooses the best people to practice with- the man’s got taste. One of the best parts about this practice is that Lady Gaga was blasting from outside the court the whole time. Everything from “Poker Face” to “Monster” to “Alejandro.” (Yeah, I was cracking up when that last one came on.) Anyway, here are some pics.

All of the pictures are Jills property. Do not take them without her consent.  Thanks.

Well, This Fricking Sucks

OK, I take back what I said about Gilles playing that exo. I said it was dumb of him to play the exo instead of a tourney like Sydney or Auckland. At the time I figured he was mostly healed the knee problems that plagued him the last half of last year. I now amend my statement: he shouldn’t have come to Australia to begin with.

In case you haven’t heard, Gilles pulled out of the AO after an abysmal performance at the World Tennis Challenge in Adelaide. He was bageled by both Ginepri and Tomic (!) and lost all his singles and dubs matches. Poor thing. I just wish he wouldn’t have tried to play at all.

I want this Gilles back. Soon. So he better not even think about doing anything but resting for the next few weeks.

As for the other Frenchies, PHM has already dropped out, and I don’t expect Gael to make it that far either (especially since he’s in Muzz’ eighth of the draw). But it’s not all bad for my fellow Francophiles and I, as Jo and Richie seem to be in good form and Jeremy is seeded for the first time. I hope they carry the banner for Gilles and go far. Allez!

Breaking News: Gilles Has Lost His Mind

I am soooo pissed off at Gilles. He’s my favorite player, so I’m allowed to rage at him. His ass should have been in Brisbane or Doha or Sydney or Auckland these last two weeks, but it wasn’t. So after not playing any ATP tournaments, where is Gilles right now?

He’s at some stupid podunk exhibition in Adelaide! And even worse, he’s losing!

“The World Tennis Challenge” is taking place from the 12th-14th (i.e. right now) and features four teams from different regions. Each team consists of a current player and a retired player. Here are the teams:

Team Americas: John McEnroe & Robby Ginepri
Team Australasia: Pat Cash & Bernard Tomic
Team Europe: Henri Leconte & Gilles Simon
Team International: Patrick Rafter & Radek Stepanek

Here are the results so far:(Warning: this is sad)

Tuesday 12 January

Men’s Singles (Current)
Stepanek def. Simon 7-6 (4) 6-0 (A bagel, r u fucking kidding me?)
Tomic def. Ginepri 7-6 (4) 6-4

Men’s Singles (Legends)
Leconte def. Bahrami 8-5
Cash def. McEnroe 8-6

Men’s doubles
Stepanek/Bahrami (International) def. Simon/Leconte (Europe) 7-5 (pffft!)
Ginepri & McEnroe (Americas) def. Tomic & Cash (Australia) 7-6 (5)

International def. Europe 2-1
Australia def. Americas 2-1

Wednesday 13 January

Men’s Singles (Current)
Tomic def. Stepanek 6-3 2-6 (10-4)
Ginepri def. Simon 6-2 6-4 (it just keeps getting better, doesn’t it?!)

Men’s Singles (Legends)
Rafter def. Cash 8-4
McEnroe def. Leconte 8-6

Men’s doubles
Tomic/Cash (Australia) def. Rafter/Bahrami (International) 7-6 (7-5)
Ginepri & McEnroe (Americas) def. Simon/Leconte (Europe) 6-1 (*shocker*)

Australia def. International 2-1
Americas def. Europe 3-0

Of course, there are no pics of this *really awesome* event, so here’s a pic of Gilles that interprets how I feel right now in visual form:

With a warm-up this sad, I just don’t know what to expect at the AO. Especially after his knee injury in Paris. Gilles has quarterfinal points to defend in Melbourne. I’m going to try to be positive, but honestly: Gilles should have played Doha or Sydney instead of this stupid exo. End rant.

WTF?! of the Week: Gilles Vs Monster

I got my new Tennis Magazine in the mail yesterday, and look what was on page 5:

OK, I just have no idea. In some perverse way, I love it. It’s nice to know that Head still has enough confidence in Gilles to feature him in an ad like this when they carry so many top players. It’s just that the very idea of Gilles battling a monster has me in tears of laughter. He’s a lover, not a fighter. He doesn’t look like he’s going to fight the monster so much as try to talk philosophy with it.

Not to mention whoever edited the picture gave Gilles Evgeny’s upper body :/ But hey, all publicity is good publicity! So thumbs up from me!
