Australian Open: Day 3

Yeah, I know we didn’t do a post about day 2. Sorry about that, but nothing exciting really happened. Fed lost a set to Igor and the commies thought it was the end of the world. Serena beat URad to the ground. So, let’s see what happened in day 3.

Today it was a really long day at the AO. There where a couple of 5 setters. One of those was DelPo vs Blah. I didn’t see the match since I needed some sleep. So WTF happened? Was Blah playing great or it has something to do with DelPo’s much talked wrist injury? Anyway, DelPo finally won 10-8 in the fifth. Thank Sven that Blah sucks in 5 setters, the name Lames Flake didn’t come out of nowhere.

The other epic 5 setter was Marin vs. that little Punk Tomic. Good for Tomic, he gave a good fight in front of the home crowd. The match ended at 2:30 am Sydney time. I’ll be sure to catch the repeat, no I won’t. Since those fuckers at ESPN2 didn’t show the match. I wanted to see the 5th set but got Mike and Mike in the Morning. Really nice ESPN2, you have like 4 other channels, ffs. Couldn’t you put that show in one of those?

Rafa  cruised against Lacko. Didn’t see much of the match, you know since  Dick and Hagrid are more important because there Americans. FU ESPN2 for cockbloking the match because of your American Bias. At least Dick was playing my boy Thomaz so I got some eye candy. But Hagrid was playing some Irish dude with no neck that looked like a Leprechaun. BTW, congrats to Emma  really nice for your country man, he made the main draw and got some nice cash.

On the WTA side the match that everyone wanted to see was the Lena vs JuJu match. The best 2nd round match ever according to ESPN2 *eyeroll*. I totally though that Lena was going to win. Since you know she beat Serena last week and was playing really well. So, I was burned again by Lena like she has done many times before. Justine won in straights, but it was a close match.

I also threw my hands in the air. I won’t trust Lena ever again. I think I finally learned my lesson.

Lena kicks ReRe’s injured ass to defend Sydney title

Well now, that’s just awesome!

Elena Dementieva heavily defeated World #1 Serena Williams 6-3, 6-2 earlier today to successfully defend her Sydney title. The match was pretty interesting. One of the standouts in my opinion was Lena’s serve. Every tennis fan worth their salt knows that it’s normally a load of bollocks, but today, it was consistently good. I think she must have worked her cute Russian ass off during the off season, cos even her ball toss is much improved. Good for her. ReRe is definitely carrying a knee injury of some sort, she had strapping on it, and her movement was laboured. But for reals, I think that even without the injury Lena would have won. She was just on today, and has been all week. She always seems to play well Down Under. In truth, she looks great heading into the AO, but I refuse to say more than that in case I jinx her.

ReRe should be good to go at the AO, but whether or not it’s because of her dodgy knee, she hasn’t looked great this week. Her runner’s up speech was total fucking FAIL. Arrogant bitch. One lowlight was: “I’ve never really been runner-up too often, so I dunno what to say…erm yeah.” Jaysus. Yet more proof that money doesn’t buy class. Try taking a leaf out of your sister’s book on how to be gracious in defeat, Serena.

Gah. The Aussie Open can’t come quick enough.

Mother Russia Downed By Underdogs, Brits Get Sh*t Done

In a huge upset, Russia were defeated 2-1 in today’s Hopman Cup tie by massive underdogs Kazakhstan.

First up was Lena D, who redeemed herself following her loss to Lisicki by defeating JJ-slayer Yaroslava Shvedova easily, sailing to a comfortable 6-3, 6-1 victory to give Russia a 1-0 lead.

Then, the script was dramatically re-written when Igor Andreev was steamrolled by Andrey Golubev, 6-4, 6-3. Igor looked really out of sorts for the entire match, while Golubev was impressive. The tie was now level at 1-1. The teams then took to the court for Mixed Doubles, and in yet another shock, the Kazakhs defeated the much higher ranked Russian pair, 7-6, 6-4. Russia, who had been bookie’s favourites to reach the final, now face an uphill battle to proceed, and to have any hope of doing so, they must defeat these guys…

Team GB played a blinder today, taking their tie against the Germans 2-1. New HSM fave L-Rob was defeated by Lisicki 7-6, 6-3, but in her defense, she played out of her skin, and really pushed an opponent who is not only much older and higher ranked, but also much more experienced. Good for her.

Muzzard then pwned Kohlschreiber 6-4, 6-1, and the tie was level at 1 a piece.

Which meant that we had yet another live, and awesome, Mixed Doubs rubber. Muzz and L-Rob slaughtered their opponents, 6-3, 6-2, to put themselves in pole position to qualify from their group.

In a side note, Muzz and L-Rob are a fucking awesome team. They are so adorable together, and young Laura is most definitely the boss. They even took the time to take the piss out of each other during their presser;

L-Rob being awesome.
