Masha fierce, Queen Vee defends crown, Mariana pops title cherry

The WTA is batshit crazy. But I fucking love it!

Masha fierce > Sasha fierce. FACT. HSM fave Sharapova crushed Sofia Arvidsson by 6-2, 6-1 in the Memphis final. Good times for Masha, who seemed to be on supreme form all week. She’s definitely on the up! Davai!

Meanwhile, the classier Willaims sister, Queen Vee, defended her Dubai crown by downing BAMF Vika, 6-3, 7-5.

And finally, a big congrats to young Colombian Mariana Duque Marino, who won her maiden title at her home tournie in Bogotá. Good for her, and good for Colombian tennis. She defeated the favored Angelique Kerber in the final.

This week, the SEWTA Tour moves on to Acapulco and Kuala Lumpur.

2010 Aussie Open; Chick’s edition

Chick’s Draw

As expected, the Top 8 seeds are ReRe, Dina, Sveta, Blahroline, Lena D, Queen Vee, Vika and JJ.

Some great first round match-ups on the horizon: Masha vs MaKiri, Blahroline vs CanWoz, and Queen Vee vs Lucie.

The draw seems slightly bottom heavy. Both Williams sisters are in the top half, along with Vika, Baby E and Caro. Kimmy and Haley Joel Henin are both on the bottom half, along with Dina, JJ, Masha, and Sveta.

Potential quarters are as follows: ReRe vs Vika, JJ vs Dina, Lena D vs Sveta, and Queen Vee vs Caro. To be honest, despite the seeding, my guess is that only one of these quarters will come to fruition. WTA is batshit crazy.

Not forgetting the lower seeds, Kimmy’s draw seems tough, she has Lena, Haley Joel, Sveta and Flavs in her quarter. Baby E got a raw deal too, she has ReRe, Vika, Bepa and Slammin Sammy in her quarter. Poor cow. Masha’s seems cool, she could possibly face Dina in the 4th round, which would be awesome.

All told, the WTA draw has thrown up some pretty awesome possible matches. As with the dude’s, there’s a lot to play for. JJ and Dina want a maiden slam, Baby E wants to get back on the wagon, Haley Joel wants to wreck everyone’s buzz, Queen Vee wants to add to her collection for the first time since Wimby 2008, ReRe wants to defend her title, Masha has fought back well from her injury and wants a Major for her efforts, and Caro wants to go that one step further and win a slam.

Knowing WTA tennis, it should be a very entertaining shitfest. Man, I love women’s tennis.

It’s so on bitches!!

Fratelli d’Italia victorious, Shahar shines

The ASB Classic at Auckland has been bringing the drama bigtime this week, what with all the assholes protesting about Shahar Peer and seeds falling left, right, and center. The QFs yesterday saw two HSM faves, Flavs and Kiri in action.

Flavia, who has been on amazing form this week, and hasn’t dropped serve once, was up against RG semi-finalist and another HSM fave, Domi. The match was a completely one-sided affair, with The Countess of Court #3 strolling to victory, 6-1, 6-2.

Flavs will now take on her friend and compatriot Francesca Schiavone, who defeated Cindy Lou Who in straights.

Shahar Peer has had a lot of crap to deal with this week, but to her credit, she did not let this affect her during her match against Russian goddess MaKiri. It was an odd match, Peer bagelled Kiri in the first set, then Kiri bounced back to take the match into a decider by taking the 2nd set 6-3, only to have Peer turn up her level a notch and take the final set 6-1. While we here at HSM love MaKiri, I think we’re all happy that Shahar has shown the ignorant fuckers who have been giving her shit that she is not going to take it lying down. Good for you, girl.

Shahar plays Yanina “The Other Belgian” Wickmayer next, after Wicky beat Kimiko Date Krumm, 6-2, 6-2.
